Spotlight on Starlust

December 28, 2008 Khit 2 comments

What’s Up Everybody!

I wanted to do another designer spotlight before 2008 came to a close. But I admit I was having trouble. I mean how can you really spotlight a whole sim full of designers and stores that you adore? Not sure if my attempt will be the best, but I hope to do these designers justice. All of them are featured @ Starlust!

I fell in love with Starlust (Lloyd) when it first started out as a simple, crazy, wacky hotel. I had no idea, then, what it would grow into. I adore Apatia, Melatonin, and the gang over at Starlust. The sim is wild and imaginatively creativity. It’s a treat to explore and even more fun to shop! If you have not made Starlust a part of your SL experience, I ask that you do so. If you already know about Starlust, then make sure that Starlust Extended (Floyd) is on your “to do” list as well. Let’s view some of my favorite designers that call Starlust their home in SL!

Sisters

This eclectic shop, located on Starlust Extended, offers fashion outside of the ordinary. Sisters sells mostly dresses and tops, in frilly and often freaky, varieties.  I call it soft goth, because while its not as dark and heavy as much of the goth wear I have seen it, the shapes and look of the clothing gives off a goth vibe to me. I’m wearing the Black Lace Dress, matched with adorably odd hair from [giselle].  Reasonably priced, most of the items costs anywhere between 100L and 200L. Dollarbie sox legwarmers are available here, so grab them while you can.

Thimbles

Goodness knows I need to stay out of this store. Much like GLAM, Last Call, and other store I have stalked and/or continue to stalk, I have far too much from Thimbles. Melatonin Hax is such a darling and really likes to have that ‘tounge and cheek’  fun with her clothing. Below is a mosh of clothing from her beloved store. What I love most about this store is the true ‘wearability’ of the clothes, in fabric like cotton and texture like knit. Cozy sweaters, off-beat dresses, multi purpose tops and tanks to dress up or down. With most items selling between 100L and 150L, Thimbles is a store I consider my secret fashion weapon. Be sure to join the Thimbles group (or the Starlust group for that matter), as the gang usually has a freebie or two to kick around to us loyal devotees.

I came to know Ki2 because of one item– the wide leg jeans. At the time, I had not see a real wide leg pant on the grid. No, not a flare pant…. I said a wide leg jeans. It was a revolution at the time, well to me at least. With a prim attachment on the thigh and the calf, the illusion of a wide leg pant was created. While I hate that little gap in between the prim attachments and the line it creates in the jeans (see below), I still wear my wide leg jeans with glee. Especially since each back pocket has the letter “K” stitched on. So while the store is named Ki- Squared (Ki2), I really like to think it means Kiss Kiss or Khitten Kurka. Hey I can dream right? Anyway, with time Ki2 expanded its offerings and began to sell tee-shirts, tops, and jewelry. Small offerings but easy on the wallet. Pick up some great basic and some new finds too!

Schadenfreude

Schadenfreude, don’t ask me how to pronounce it. I just call it Freud. This seriously punk, goth, rocker store is located inside a big elephant, how is that for funny? The clothes here are definitely on the dark side– a beautiful bat corset– yet fun too–the Mouse King Suites. I just love my Nosfer Coat, in the not so tough color of pink. It comes in a ghostly shade of white as well. Lots of morbidly sexy dresses, painfully evil pants, and jagged jewels, along with hair, shoes, and of course ghostly, ghastly skins. For a unique shopping experience, be sure to check them out!

Some of my other favorites stores on Starlust and Starlust extended include Royal Blue (see my Bluey You post); Swallowtail; Split Pea; and Fashionably Dead.  Be sure to stop by both sims and explore!!  Pose balls abound which means lots of photo ops!

Until next time,

From My Lips: December 28

Hey There!

Good to see you back! Like you, I’ve been away for a little bit but I am back with a vengeance. So let’s not waste time, eh? Let’s get right down to it! This week, we’ll rally behind Ce Cubic,  get creative with [gisele], MNK, Aoharu, and Honey Soul, then kick up some dust with shoes from the Sweetest Goodbye. Speaking of dust, we’ll dip back into “old town” with some goodness from Kuri Style and TB. This edition is packed and with little room to spare. So be sure to click the links to visit the designer sites!

Rally Rally

Every season, well except this past summer, I have participated in the Creative Stamp Rally [CSR]. This is a fun activity and you can learn more about CSR here. But this winter, I  decided to jump back into the game. I am so happy I did. This sweater poncho (seen a few times on the feeds) is just one of many free prizes available. I’ve collected a few, some of which you will also see in this post. It’s fun and exposes you to lots of creativity on the grid, so get out there, spend some linden, and have fun!

Creative Streak

I’ve blogged before about my fascination (read: obsession) with Japanese clothing and designs. I really can’t get enough and soon I really should start learning to read and/or speak the language. Maybe that can be a New Year’s resolution! One place I visit early and often is the Creator’s Pavilion [CP]. I found this hidden gem last spring and have been shopping here faithfully ever since.  Always some very nice finds– many from designers already known and loved across the grid. Like Honey Soul. This dress and muffler are both featured at the CP sale.

MNK also has some wonderful items available. Paired together, this tunic and tweed half pant are smashing! The top comes in multiple option sleeves, ribbons, and trunk attachments– so you can have fun playing mix and match!

And speaking of options-WHOA- get a look at this shirt from [giselle].  This is a new store to me and I was fascinated by this shirt. Check out the main store for dollarbie manicures in cute colors such as ancient pearl and princess pink! This great hair, from :69:, is another free prize you can earn during CSR Winter ‘08.  [A word of caution: it took me close to 30 minutes to tweak the trunk prim attachment on the drape sweater and it still was not fitting properly in the back. Due to my shape and size, it was hard to wear the collar and the trunk together as the stretching can make the items larger than they need be and can distort the original look. Curvy girls, this may impact your decision to buy. If I had know, I probably would not have purchased this item.]

No trip to CP is complete without viewing the special sets from Aoharu. Usually Machang will sell special sets, some not available in her store, for the CP sale. This is one of two pink ladies outfits available and its only 100L. Something between a long shirt and a romper, it is deliciously cute in this cotton candy shade of pink. Teamed here with some great funky tartan stockings from G^G and my current shoe of the moment from Sweetest Goodbye. These shoes rock— HARD!  I’m wearing the grey version, see pic below for the black version.

Dust Mites

It’s always good to go back into the inventory and make the old stuff feel like new. Here, I teamed a lovely knit top [with corsage] from Kuri Style with the high wasit pants from Sn@tch’s Nerd Girl. A cute flexi scarf keeps me warm as I fight through the post-Christmas shopping. Shhhh, I managed to slip out through a side exit. Don’t tell anyone!

Okay so every AV had some hooch in her SL fashion cycle. Be it too much bling, extreme low-cut shirt, or the infamous booty short– we have all walked the hooch trail. But who can really resist these shorts by TB [on Starlust]. But you know I had to put my spin on it– black fishnets and a lovely Christmas gift, this hooded fur sweater, from B&T Atelier.

I must take a second to talk about these oh-s0-damn-hawt-ass-boots from Sweetest Goodbye. I came across this designer about a year ago. when they were in a different location. I was more into their accessories at the time. But during CSR [see, I told you it takes you places *smile*] I came across the store again. These boots caught my attention right off the bat.  I love them because they fit without any adjustments, and they are just above the ankle and below the calf muscle. A fat pack, which contains four colors, is only $1500L. Well worth it and a great addition to the inve.

Wow, did I say vengeance? Ah, yeah I did!  I am exhausted but excited to share these finds with you. Fashion on the grid is alive and ready for another fabulous year! So be sure to run out and grab some 2008 goodness before its all gone. CSR Winter ‘08 ends in early January, so don’t delay! Also be sure to check out the final days of the sales from ETD, AnnaH, Reel Expressions, and tons of other stores around the grid. And do stop by Cupcakes, over in LeZoo. They now have gift cards available, as well as a new skin tone to the recently released Celebrity line.

Until next time,

Kiss Kiss
