As this year comes to a close, I think back on the many purchases I have made in Second Life these past twelve months. With all those purchases its hard to remember everything, let alone wear it all.
Some items worked like a charm. Others were too complex and required too much editing. A few were “not as advertised” and went straight to the trash bin. But there were certain brands and items I came back to repeatedly some of which I have showcased on this blog. Others I wore more often on the grid. But I thought it would be fun to share a few of my favorite things, fashion related, in 2010. Peep the show then see the list below for credits:
Khitten’s Favorite Things- 2010:
1. Hair, Hair, and More Hair!
Hair makers in SL have a tough time coming up with new designs to excite and entice us crazy shoppers. There are many well know makers of hair– such as Truth and Maitreya– that permeate the feeds and countless inventories. However, my favorites this year include epoque, MrS, discord, and Fab-U-Lous (all shown) as well as Clawtooth and Shag.
2. Whose Shoes?
Honestly, I plan to clean out my shoe folder in January. It’s out of control. So much that I believe I have a shoe fetish (gasps!). I am not the kind of girl to wear high-heels or knee-high boots every day. I like shoes with some style, a splash of flash, a healthy dose of practicality, and a pinch of uniqueness. Sounds like a great recipe to me! My favorites for this year include Blackout, Gos, A-Bomb and R2 Fashion (all shown) as well YS&YS, Kookie and my Decoy boots which were actually a 2009 purchase but have held up very well!
3. Bling and Things.
My jewels and accessories in SL are pretty much like RL- classy and simple. I don’t need a whole lot of stuff to make my outfits pop. But when I do want that extra special touch– be it funky or feminine- I turn to some of my favorites like Ryca, Mentine, So Many Styles, and Uzuri (all shown) as well as Yummy, Ganked, Pacadi, and Milk Motion.
4. Never Go Naked.
Guess we have to wear something in SL, although enough nude beaches exists to tell us otherwise. With advancements in the SL viewers, fashion heads pile tons and tons of layers upon themselves. Sculpted prims remain the rage. But ya know what? I like my fashions nice and simple. A prim or two is fine, but clean lines, classic colors and less fuss is more my bag. So when I wanted to get fly this year I turned to my favorites places like So Many Styles, House of Hucci, Cashmere (welcome back!), Jane (hooray for rebranding), Kyoot, and epoque (all shown) as well as Snatch and Whippet & Buck.
5. Beat That Face!
Man oh man. Those tattoo layers REALLY made folks go hog wild on the skins and makeup. I managed to keep my head calm and picked up some choice skins and makeups this year were versatile and flattering to my avatar. Cupcakes is still one of my all-time favorite skin makers but this year I wore the hell out of skins from Bodyline, Dekade (formerly KA Skins), Inka (a recent find for me), Glamorize (inexpensive, well-made, with options galore), and CandyDoll. I also splashed on makeups from Kiko Life (Osumtomi has an excellent array of makeups and lip tattoos, esp. for ethnic avatars) as well as Snatch, Kyoot and Glamorize.
Of course, I couldn’t squeeze all of my fashion favorites in. But honestly if you read my blog enough you know that many of these stores, brands, items, and designers get major play on my pixel body.
I’ll mention my favorites in home/furniture as well as places in SL over the next week or so. Until then, check out some of my favorities listed above and make them yours as well!
